Guilty Gear Special (part 1)

History teaches everything including the future.
Lamartine

Hello People of blogger, this is going to be one of my biggest review ever made. This is going to be a 2 part blog (I hope this counts as two) that involves a fighting game but it has music references from old bands. Sure, It may not be from the past, but the historic value the game has gives it a charm that I want people to know about

Well Here it is
Guilty Gear
Publisher: Aksys
Relased on:September 11, 2007 (PlayStation 2)
Wii version on October 16, 2007

Guilty Gear is not your typical type of 2-D fighter. When people think 2-D, they might think other famous games, like Street Fighter, King Of Fighters, Tekken, etc. All these games have a reference of a fighting style people should be familar with, ex: Karate , jujitsu, kick boxing, and so on.

Though what would happen if there was a fighting game that gave characters personality and moves based on music? References to famous artist and their music. Seems impossible, but this game makes it all possible.

Welcome to Guilty Gear (Accent Core Plus, also known as XX or X2 for Europe)

First glance, a person would be saying "I look at these picutres, but I do not see anything that is music related".

I agree that the music reference are not easy to pick up fast, however if a person takes thier time and analyze specific characters, personality and move sets, it is easily shown.

It may look like this right now, but after seeing a video or two, a person can see some music references.

Here is one video on what I am talking about, examine this closely, there are two references here if a person thinks carefully

Well? any luck finding a reference? if not, I will tell you. The first reference is the announcer. The announcer says before each fight "Heaven or Hell", which could be a reference to the Black Sabbath's album Heaven and Hell, or to the song by Gamma Ray

The other music realted note would be the "combo" which says beat. Not a big reference, but just pointing it out.

The next point I want to point out would be the chatacters now, there is a bunch of them that ressemble a  reference and it will take time to get them all.

First Up, Sol Badguy

Ishiwatari originally voiced Sol Badguy (whose real name is Fredderick, à la Queen's late lead singer Freddie Mercury, a leading character in the game whom the manual describes as an avid fan of Queen.

The name "Badguy" is in reference to Freddie Mercury's nickname of Mr. Bad Guy. His theme has the same name as a Queen song.]

Ky

One of Ky Kiske's special moves is called Ride The Lightning, which comes from Metallica's 1984 recording "Ride The Lightning." Ky's Instant kill move is called "Rising Force", which is Yngwie Malmsteen's first album released in 1984. Also, Ky Kiske is a reference to Kai Hansen and Michael Kiske, both ex-vocals from Helloween.
